Women's track and field team competes at Ernie Mousseau Track Classic
The warm weather helped the women’s track and field team post many season-best times at the 2011 Aquinas College/Ernie Mousseau Track Classic today at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The warm weather helped the Olivet College women's track and field team post many season-best times at the 2011 Aquinas College/Ernie Mousseau Track Classic today at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids. The unscored meet featured a mix of NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA institutions and unattached athletes.
Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western) was fourth in the 100-meter dash (:13.05) and seventh in both the 200-meter dash (:27.02) and 100-meter hurdles (:16.90). Cassandra Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a school record time of 16.21 seconds and also ran a season-best time of 1:12.28 in the 400-meter hurdles. Jenna Mayle (Ionia) finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.92.
Liz Stewart (Vermontville/Maple Valley) was Olivet's top finisher in the 400-meter dash (1:03.87). Katie Yahrmarkt (Sparta) and Courtney Osborn (Dorr/Wayland Union) completed the 1,500-meter run at 5:33.08 and 6:22.43, respectively.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Gaarde, Chelsea Guzikowski (Reed City), Ciaravino and Stewart was fourth in 51.99 seconds. The 4x400-meter quartet of Guzikowski, Ciaravino, Mayle and Gaarde finished in fifth-place in 4:32.34.
The top finish in the field events was turned in by Heather Nicklaw (Springport), who tied for second-place in the high jump with a 1.55m/5'1" clearance.
Olivet returns to action next Friday and Saturday, April 29-30 at the Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays.
