Women's track and field team finishes in sixth-place at Defiance Open Meet
The women’s track and field team opened its outdoor season by placing sixth (of 11 schools) at the Defiance (Ohio) College/Yellow Jacket Open Meet.
The Olivet College women's track and field team opened its outdoor season by placing sixth (of 11 schools) at the Defiance (Ohio) College/Yellow Jacket Open Meet.
Liz Stewart (Vermontville/Maple Valley) turned in the women's top performance on the track, as she finished in second-place in the 400 dash with a time of 1:04.48. She also ran the anchor leg, teaming with Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western), Chelsea Guzikowski (Reed City) and Cassandra Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 relay. Their time was 52.25 seconds.
In the field events, Heather Nicklaw (Springport) placed second in the high jump. She cleared the bar at 1.51 meters (4'11.5"). Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) was fourth in the shot put with a 10.76 meter/35'3.75" toss. The throw was just four inches short of the school record, 39'0.50", by Andrea Johnson in 2003.
Olivet returns to the track next Saturday, April 9, for the All-American Meet at Adrian College.
