Women's track and field team finishes in second-place at Trine Invitational
The women's track and field team collected 115 points to finish in second-place (out of four schools) at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational.
The Olivet College women's track and field team collected 115 points to finish in second-place (out of four schools) at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational.
Sophomore Sarah Caldwell (Bronson) won the 200-meter dash in 26.78 seconds, followed by freshman Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western) in second at 27.60 seconds. Freshman Liz Stewart (Vermontville/Maple Valley) finished in second-place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.66.
Olivet runners went 2-3-4 in the 60-meter hurdles. Freshman Cassandra Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) was second, 10.01, followed by Gaarde in third, 10.41; and freshman Jenna Mayle (Ionia) in fourth, 10.66. The Comets scored second-place points in both the 4x400-meter and 4,000 meter distance relays.
In field events, junior Heather Nicklaw (Springport) took top honors in the high jump. She cleared the bar at 1.57 meters (5'1.75"). Ciaravino leaped 4.76 meters/15'7.5" to finish in second-place in the long jump. Freshman Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) was second in the shot put (11.03 meters/36'2.25") and third in the weight throw (12.08 meters/39'7.75").
The Comets will return to Trine next Saturday, Feb. 26, for the MIAA Indoor Invitational.
