Outdoor track and field teams participate in Manchester Spartan Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams participated in the Manchester (Ind.) College Spartan Invitational today in North Manchester, Ind. The Comet women placed fourth of six schools, while the men were fifth of eight schools.
The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams participated in the Manchester (Ind.) College Spartan Invitational today in North Manchester, Ind. The Comet women placed fourth of six schools, while the men were fifth of eight schools.
The women were led by freshman Ellen Schulz (Freeland) and senior Sheena West (Kalamazoo/Comstock), who combined for five Top-5 finishes. Schulz was second in both the high jump and long jump. She also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash. West finished in fourth-place in the 100-meter hurdles and fifth in the long jump. In addition, Olivet's 4x100-meter relay was second.
The men posted seven Top-5 finishes on the track and two more in field events. In the 100-meter dash, sophomore Patrick Clasgens (Livonia/Stevenson) and freshman Vince Hanna (Marshall) were third and fifth, respectively. Freshman Jordan Dornan (Bangor) led a 4-5 Olivet finish in the 200-meter dash. Hanna was fifth. Sophomore William Hopson (Eau Claire) placed fourth in the 110-mter hurdles, while junior Thomas Ray (Constantine) was fifth in the 1,500-meter run. The 4x100-meter relay finished in second-place. In the field events, Hanna was the highest Comet finisher, as he took third in the long jump. Sophomore Alex Hill (Berrien Springs) tied for fifth-place in the high jump.
Olivet is now idle until next Saturday, April 12, when it participates in the first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree. Action gets under way at 9 a.m.
