Track and field teams finish in fifth-place at 115th Annual MIAA Field Day
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track and field teams each finished in fifth-place at the 115th Annual Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day, which was hosted by Albion College.
The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams each finished in fifth-place at the 115th Annual Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day, which was hosted by Albion College.
The men's team tallied 37.50 points, while the women had 29 points. Calvin College's men and women were crowned the 2006 MIAA champions.
The highest finisher for the Comet men was junior Lonnie White (Battle Creek/Central). He placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.49 seconds. White also tied for seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (:59.29). Juniors Randy Place (Bellevue) and Robert Banks (Detroit/Benedictine) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash with times of :51.45 and :52.78. Place also took eighth-place in the 200-meter dash (:23.50).
Olivet's 4x100-meter relay finished in fifth-place, clocking in at 45.53 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay was seventh (3:32.97). In field events, junior Robert Horton (Charlotte) placed fifth in the discus throw with a 141 feet, 4 inch toss. Sophomore Joel Gyomory (North Branch) took seventh-place in the high jump as he cleared the bar at 6 feet, 2 inches.
Junior Courtney Ivan (Belleville) was the highest finisher for the Olivet women. She had a 119 feet, 8 inch toss in the javelin throw to earn runner-up honors. Sophomore Hannah Robbins (Marshall) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.24. Sophomore Donna Cripe (Vermontville/Maple Valley) finished in fifth-place in the 100-meter dash (:13.26). Both the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays were fifth.
