Track and field teams lose dual meets at Albion
The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams each lost two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meets today at the Elkin Isaac Track in Albion. The men's team fell to Albion College, 149-37, and Calvin College, 148-39. The women's team dropped a 147-32 to Albion and a 142-32 decision to Calvin.

On the women's side, Olivet had one first-place finish as junior Courtney Ivan (Belleville) won the javelin with a 113'9" toss. Sophomore Hannah Robbins (Marshall) was second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.41) and fifth in the 100-meter low hurdles (:17.20). Freshman Tami Cahow (Climax-Scotts) took third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.16). Sophomore Donna Cripe (Vermontville/Maple Valley) was fifth in both the 100- and 200-meter dash with times of 13.46 and 27.64 seconds, respectively.
The highest finish for the men's team was second-place by junior Lonnie White (Battle Creek/Central) in the 110-meter high hurdles (:15.85). He also placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.21). The Comets also had three third-place finishes. On the track, sophomore Ruel Haughton (Detroit/Osborn) was third in the 100-meter dash (:11.56). In the field, junior Bobby Horton (Charlotte) and freshman Daniel Slocum (Potterville) were third in the discus throw and high jump, respectively. Horton's 151'5" toss broke his own school record. Slocum cleared the bar at 6'4".
Other top-five finishers were sophomore Joel Gyomory (North Branch), high jump (4th, 6'0"); junior Randy Place (Bellevue), 200-meter dash (4th, :23.14); sophomore Perry White (Detroit/Osborn), 100-meter dash (5th,:11.90); and freshman Nick Wolf (Olivet), pole vault (5th,12'0").
Olivet is now idle until Thursday and Friday, May 4-5, when it returns to Albion College to compete in the 2006 MIAA Field Day. Thursday's action begins at 1 p.m. with finals in select field events and preliminaries in select running events at 4:50 p.m. Friday's action starts at 10 a.m. with finals in the remaining field events, and finals in running events at 1:30 p.m.
