Track and field teams compete at MIAA Field Day
The Olivet College men’s and women’s outdoor track/field teams wrapped up their 2004 season today at the 113th Annual Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day hosted by Calvin College in Grand Rapids. The Fighting Comets had seven top-eight finishes, and the Lady Comets recorded three top-eight finishes.
The Olivet College men’s and women’s outdoor track/field teams wrapped up their 2004 season today at the 113th Annual Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day hosted by Calvin College in Grand Rapids. The Fighting Comets had seven top-eight finishes, and the Lady Comets recorded three top-eight finishes.
On the men’s side, senior Josh Toussaint (Lansing Sexton High School) led the way with two fourth-place finishes. He was fourth in the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.31 and 22.70 seconds, respectively. Toussaint also anchored the 400-meter relay, which placed third in 43.71 seconds.
Ruel Haughton (Detroit Osborn High School), Kemp Luchie (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Northern High School) and Casey Redfield (Shepard High School) joined Toussaint on the relay. Luchie was clocked in at 11.48 seconds for a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash.
In field events, freshman Robert Horton (Charlotte High School) was fifth in the shot put and sixth in the discus. He had personal-best throws of 47’3” in the discus and 144’6.5” in the discus. Freshman Andy Weiss (Fremont High School) cleared a personal-best 11’6” in the pole vault to place sixth.
On the women’s side, senior Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) had the highest finish as she cleared 4’10” in the high jump for a sixth-place finish. Sophomores Rebecca Dawson (Williamsburg High School) and Courtney Ivan (Belleville High School) each recorded an eighth-place finish. Dawson finished the 5,000-meter run in 20:15.07. Ivan had a personal-best 104’6” toss in the javelin.
