Outdoor Track and Field Teams Compete at Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays
The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field team competed April 25-26 at the annual Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays. The meet was unscored with over 25 NCAA Division I, II and III and NAIA schools competing.
HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's outdoor track and field team competed April 25-26 at the annual Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays. The meet was unscored with over 25 NCAA Division I, II and III and NAIA schools competing.
Senior Trent Harvey (Charlotte/Maple Valley High School) had the highest finish for the Fighting Comets. He was seventh in the javelin with a personal-best (PR) 159'0" toss. Senior Benji Garza (Holland High School) followed him in eighth place with a 156'7" throw. Freshman Dan Kimball (National City High School) was 1.2 seconds shy of breaking the school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:14.50.
In addition, freshman Jeremy Shephard (Mattawan High School) ran a PR in the 1,500-meter run at 4:25.00 and senior Steve Szokola (Marysville High School) had a PR in the 5,000-meter run (16:21.74). Sophomore Chad Kaiser (Alpena High School) set a PR in the steeplechase (10:44.56). The 4x800-meter relay -- Shephard, Kimball, sophomore Kevin Kreh (Kinde Huron High School) and freshman Jeremy Droscha (Charlotte High School) ran a PR time of 8:30.01.
Freshman Rebecca Dawson (Elk Rapids High School) paced the Lady Comets as she completed the 10,000-meter run in a PR time of 41.09.19. Juniors Lindsay Olds (Hartford High School) and Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) were 11th and 13th, respectively in the javelin. Olds had a 94'2" toss and McHugh threw it 92'5".
Olivet will travel to Alma College on Friday-Saturday, May 2-3, to compete in the 2003 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships. Action will begin on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. and the resume on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
