Women’s tennis team begins Spring Break trip with 9-0 win over Juniata

The Olivet College women's tennis team began its Spring Break trip with a 9-0 win over Juniata (Pa.) College this morning at the Port Royal Racquet Club in Hilton Head, S.C.

Olivet swept the three doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) and Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and No. 3 duo of Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) each won 8-5. The No. 2 duo of Celeste Gruber (South Haven) and Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) won 8-2.

In singles, Guerra, Gruber and sophomore Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) all won in straight sets. LaValley and Scudder lost the first set, but rebounded to win the second set and then a super-tiebreaker to win the match. Singer won her first set, lost the second set, and bounced back for a super-tiebreaker win to earn the victory.

The Comets will play Muskingum (Ohio) University tomorrow at noon.
