Women's tennis team beats Saint Francis, 7-2
The Olivet College women’s tennis team defeated University of Saint Francis, 7-2, today inside the Wildwood Racquet Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Comets have now won 12 of their last 14 non-conference matches dating back to last season.

In today's match, Olivet won 2-of-3 doubles matches. At No. 2, the duo of Celeste Gruber (South Haven) and Kelsey Singer (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) posted an 8-3 win. At No. 3, the duo of Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) recorded an 8-4 victory.
The Comets sealed the win with 5-of-6 wins in singles play. At No. 1, Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) lost the first 6-2, but bounced back to win the next two, 7-5 and 6-2. At No. 2, Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) won the first set 6-1, lost the second set, 6-4, and rebounded to win the third set, 6-1. After losing the first set on a tiebreaker, Gruber did not lose any games in the second and third sets to pull out the win in the No. 3 flight. At No. 4, Singer won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. At No. 6, Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) rolled to a straight set victory, 6-2, 6-1.
Olivet resumes Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Tuesday at Albion College.
