Women's tennis splits two matches at the 2007 MIAA Tournament
The Olivet College women's tennis team fell to Hope College, 5-2, but bounced back to beat Tri-State (Ind.) University, 5-2, today at the 2007 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament, which is being hosted by Kalamazoo College.
The Olivet College women's tennis team fell to Hope College, 5-2, but bounced back to beat Tri-State (Ind.) University, 5-2, today at the 2007 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament, which is being hosted by Kalamazoo College. The design of the tournament is team format where the first team to five points is declared the winner and the matches on the court are left unfinished. Olivet will be back on the courts tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against Saint Mary's (Ind.) College.
Against Hope, the Comets receieved their two points in doubles play. At the No. 2 flight, Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) and Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) won, 8-6. At the No. 3 flight, Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) and Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) posted an 8-5 win.
Against TSU, Olivet won two doubles matches and three singles matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) and Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) picked up an 8-3 win. The No. 3 doubles team of Jager and Struble recorded an 8-6 win.
Vilums won 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles flight. At No. 2 singles, Mummaw had a 6-2, 6-4 victory. At No. 4 singles, Jaime Morrison posted a 6-2, 6-3 win.
