ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 5-1 loss to Adrian College tonight under the lights at Performance Stadium in Adrian.
The Bulldogs led 3-0 at halftime behind goals by Sam Barker in the 17th minute, Erin Weide in the 20th minute and Abby Doebel in the 29th minute. The Comets got on the scoreboard nine minutes and 14 seconds into the second half. Senior Jenna Mayle (Ionia) headed the ball into the top, right corner of the goal. Sophomore Emily Chrzasz (Livonia/Stevenson) earned the assist on the goal.
Adrian answered with a goal less than three minutes later. The Bulldogs capped their scoring with an unassisted tally in the 88th minute.
Olivet was limited to six shots, including five on-goal, in the contest. Freshman Megan Peplinski (Canton/Plymouth) was credited with two shots. Freshman Kori Ramirez (Holt) suffered the loss in net, as she allowed all of the goals on 18 Adrian shots. She made nine saves.
The Comets continue league play Saturday when they host Kalamazoo College at noon.
