Reversal in ride-outs lifts UOlivet over Albion, 19-18

ALBION, Mich. – Junior Mason Knight scored a reversal in ride-outs to give him a 3-1 win and lift The University of Olivet wrestling team to a thrilling 19-18 win over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College this evening at Kresge Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets and Britons split the 10 bouts.
- Olivet scored the first six team points when Albion forfeited the 125-pound bout. The Comets extended their lead with a sudden victory at 133 pounds. The Britons won the next four bouts to go up 15-6. Olivet closed the gap to five points with a major decision win at 174 pounds. Albion took an 18-13 lead with a sudden victory at 184 pounds.
- The Comets used a late flurry to win 8-7 at 197 pounds to make the score 18-16 entering the last bout. Olivet secured the team win with Knight's 3-1 win.
FOR THE COMETS
- At 125 pounds, junior Sam Schreiber picked-up the forfeit win.
- At 133 pounds, freshman Trenden Bashore scored a takedown in the final 20 seconds of the bout to win 4-1 in overtime.
- At 174 pounds, junior Kyan Larson used the riding time point at the end of the bout to post a 9-1 major decision win.
- At 197 pounds, senior Gideon Loewen was down 6-3 at the end of the second period. He chose neutral position to start the third period. Loewen took his man down for a takedown and to his back for a two-point near fall for an 8-6 lead. His opponent escaped for the final point of the bout.
- At 285 pounds, Knight battled to the 3-1 win. He earned the escape point to start the second period, while his opponent earned the escape point to begin the third period. There was no scoring in the overtime period. Knight won the coin toss for the ride-outs. He chose to go on bottom and scored a reversal. His opponent chose neutral in the second 30-second ride-out period but failed to score any points.

- The Comets conclude the dual match portion of their schedule next Thursday, February 12, when they host Adrian College. Action from the Cutler Event Center gets underway at 7 p.m.
