Pins by freshmen propel UOlivet to 39-12 lopsided win over Alma
OLIVET, Mich. – Freshmen Trenden Bashore and Gabriel Gibbons recorded pins to lead The University of Olivet wrestling team to a lopsided 39-12 win over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College tonight inside the Cutler Event Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets earned wins in eight bouts and scored bonus points in six. The match started with a forfeit win for the Scots. Olivet responded with a pin to level the team score. Alma got another pin to go up 12-6. The Comets ended the match with seven straight wins, including two forfeits, one pin, one technical fall, one major decision and two minor decisions.
FOR THE COMETS
- At 133 pounds, Bashore pinned his opponent 49 seconds into the second period.
- At 149 pounds, Gibbons had the fastest fall of the night, just 58 seconds into the bout.
- At 157 pounds, senior Darren McLeod earned a forfeit win.
- At 165 pounds, junior Juwan Vines overwhelmed his opponent to win a 19-4 technical fall late in the second period.
- At 174 pounds, junior Kyan Larson also won by forfeit.
- At 184 pounds, sophomore Jack Ward posted a big 17-3 major decision.
- At 197 pounds, freshman Steven Andreone hung on to win 10-7, with a takedown at the edge of the mat being the difference in the bout.
- At 285 pounds, junior Mason Knight scored a takedown and four-point nearfall in the third period to win 8-1.

- A small contingent of UOlivet wrestlers will compete on Sunday at the Henry Ford College Whizzer Open. The Comets' next MIAA dual match is Thursday, February 5, at Albion College, starting at 7 p.m.
