Pettigrew leads UOlivet wrestling at Mid-States Invitational
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Freshman Sean Pettigrew placed second in the 125-pound bracket to lead The University of Olivet wrestling team to a sixth-place finish at the 2025 Mid-States Invitational, hosted by Manchester (Ind.) University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 13-team field was made up of NCAA Division III schools from the Midwest – six from Ohio, three from Michigan, three from Indiana and one from Wisconsin.
- The Comets' lineup consisted of reserve wrestlers.
- Four of the 14 Olivet wrestlers who competed in the tournament finished in the top eight of his weight class.
FOR THE COMETS
- Pettigrew had a 3-1 record. In the first round, he used a reversal in the final second of the match to beat Brock Blankenhorn from Ohio Northern. Pettigrew then pinned Junior Arizmendi from Manchester in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Pettigrew battled to a 11-7 sudden death victory over Karrington Cooper from Trine. In the championship match, he fell to Andrew Punzalan from Wabash, 16-0.
- At 184 pounds, freshman Jack Ward was third with a 3-1 record. He started his day with a third-period pin and followed that with a 7-4 win. Ward lost his semifinal match, 10-6, but bounced back to win the third-place match by major decision, 14-4.
- At 141 pounds, senior Stuart Donlan had a 3-2 record to place seventh. His three wins were two pins and one major decision.
- At 149 pounds, sophomore Josh Graybeal posted a 4-2 record to finish in seventh-place. His wins consisted of two pins, 4-1 overtime win, and 13-12 decision.

The top three finishers in each of the 10 weight classes will advance to the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships Friday and Saturday, March 14-15, at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island.
