Wrestling team loses to Eastern Michigan, 29-9
The Olivet College wrestling team fell to NCAA Division I foe Eastern Michigan University, 29-9, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team fell to NCAA Division I foe Eastern Michigan University, 29-9, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Comets won three bouts, all by minor decision. Junior Kenny Richmond (Brighton) posted an 8-3 win at 141 pounds. He scored two takedowns in the first period to go up 4-2 and hung onto record the win.
In the most exciting bout of the night, sophomore Gage Pederson (Hastings) won 1-0 at 149 pounds. After a scoreless first period, Pederson was on top to start the second period and rode EMU's Seth Schaner for the entire period. Schaner selected neutral to start the third period and was unable to get a takedown. Pederson earned the riding time point at the end of the match to earn the win.
Senior Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) won 9-5 win at 174 pounds. The score was tied at 3-3 after one period. He continued to lead through two periods and then scored an escape and takedown in the third stanza to secure the win.
The Comets will participate in the University of Wis.-Whitewater Duals this Saturday, starting at noon CT. The order for Olivet's matches will wrestle Wis.-Eau Claire, Wis.-Stevens Point, Wis.-Oshkosh and Wis.-Whitewater.
