Women’s golf team in third after first day of O’Brien National Invitational
The Olivet College women’s golf team is in third-place after the first day of the O’Brien National Invitational being played at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., and hosted by Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Olivet College women's golf team is in third-place after the first day of the O'Brien National Invitational being played at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., and hosted by Saint Mary's (Ind.) College.
The Comets, ranked No. 17 in the Women's Golf Coaches Association Preseason poll, carded a 327 team score. No. 4 DePauw (Ind.) University leads the nine-team field with a 316, followed by No. 11 Centre (Ky.) College at 323. Behind Olivet are No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis, No. 6 George Fox (Ore.) University and No. 10 Southwestern (Texas) University all with 332s. The host Belles are seventh at 333, Otterbein (Ohio) University in eighth, 343; and Franklin (Ind.) College in ninth, 365.
Senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) sits in a tie for fourth-place in the player standings with a seven-over-par 78. She had a 40 on the front nine and 38 on the back nine, with five pars on each side of the course. Two strokes separated each of the next four Comets. Sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) had an 81, followed by senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston), 83; senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake), 85; and sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland), 87.
The second and final round gets under way tomorrow morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
