Women’s golf takes second at MIAA Playoff Round #2, remain first in playoff standings
The women’s golf team took second-place at the MIAA Playoff Round #2 today at the Blackthorne Golf Course. The Comets carded a 331 team score, which was nine strokes behind Saint Mary’s (Ind.). Despite the second-place finish, Olivet remains in first-place in the playoff standings by three strokes, 652-655, over the Belles.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Olivet College women's golf team took second-place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Playoff Round #2 today at the Blackthorne Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana.
The Comets carded a 331 team score, which was nine strokes behind Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. Despite the second-place finish, Olivet remains in first-place in the playoff standings by three strokes, 652-655, over the Belles. The school with the lowest total score after tomorrow's third round will receive the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships.
In today's round, senior Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/ Harper Creek) and freshman Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) each led the Comets with an 81. Junior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) was next at 83, followed by senior Abby Wheeler (Grayling) at 86 and freshman Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) at 87.
The national championships are May 10-13 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The field for the championships will be announced Monday, May 2, and the MIAA's runner-up finisher still has a strong chance to receive an at-large bid.
