ALMA, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's golf team began its quest for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship by taking first-place at the first league jamboree today at the Pine River Country Club in Alma. Junior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) was the medalist with a 76.
The Comets posted a 331 team score to beat defending MIAA champion Saint Mary's (Ind.) College by four strokes. Hope was third at 353, followed by Trine, 357; Albion, 365; Calvin, 366; Alma, 369; Adrian, 372; and Kalamazoo, 444.
Freshman Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) was part of a tie for second-place in the player standings with an 83. Senior Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) completed her round in 85 strokes. Freshman Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) and senior Abby Wheeler (Grayling) each shot an 87.
"We played really well in very miserable conditions for the first 12 holes," said Head Coach Bill Maas. "Lauren was outstanding and it was evident with her finishing seven strokes ahead of the second-place golfers."
Olivet will participate in the second league jamboree Tuesday at the Thornapple Pointe Golf Golf Course in Grand Rapids.
