Women’s golf team places second at MIAA Jamboree #2
The women’s golf team placed second at the MIAA #2 this afternoon, which was hosted by Calvin College at the Thornapple Pointe Golf Club.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's golf team placed second at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree #2 this afternoon, which was hosted by Calvin College at the Thornapple Pointe Golf Club in Grand Rapids.
Like at last Saturday's first jamboree, the Comets carded a 331 team score. The difference was today's score was 10 strokes behind first-place Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. Rounding out today's field was Hope, 345; Albion, 355; Trine (Ind.), 370; Adrian, 373; Alma, 373; Calvin, 419; and Kalamazoo, 436.
Olivet's top three golfers were each separated by one stroke, led by freshman Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) with an 80, followed by senior Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) with an 81 and junior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) with an 82. Senior Abby Wheeler (Grayling) posted an 88, and freshman Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) had a 95.
The Comets slip into second-place in the MIAA seasonal standings. Saint Mary's takes over the top spot and leads by six strokes, 656-662. The MIAA champion is determined from the lowest cumulative total after four jamborees and two championship rounds.
Olivet will take a break from league play and participate in the O'Brien National Invitational Sept. 19-20 at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of University of Notre Dame. Each of the 10 colleges or universities taking part finished within the top 11 at the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships last May and each school was ranked in the top 13 in the National Golf Coaches Association pre-season poll.
