UOlivet suffers 67-43 defeat to UW-Platteville

ANGOLA, Ind. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team came up short against University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 67-43, today at day two of the Trine (Ind.) University / Croxton and Roe Holiday Tournament inside the MTI Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets made three of their first five baskets, including a pair of three-pointers by senior Kinsley Hatfield, to take an 8-0 lead. The Pioneers responded with a 9-0 run for a 9-8 lead at the 4:01 mark. Freshman Alexis Woodbeck split two free throws to even the score. The teams traded baskets to keep the score tied at 11-11 to begin the second quarter.
- Olivet scored four of the first six points of the second stanza to take a 15-13 lead with 8:38 remaining. UW-Platteville closed the quarter with a 20-2 run for a 33-17 advantage at halftime. The Pioneers outscored the Comets, 17-6, in the third quarter to give them a 27-point lead, 50-23, to start the final quarter. Olivet had a +3-scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
FOR THE COMETS
- Hatfield and freshman Madelyn Burdis each scored eight points.
- Freshman A'Maryi Stevenson came off the bench to score five points.
- Freshman Reese Gohsman grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, followed by Hatfield with five.
- Junior Drue Allen and freshman Ava Lord dished out three assists apiece.
- Burdis blocked two shots.
UP NEXT
- Olivet is off until Monday and Tuesday, December 29-30, when it participates in the Transylvania (Ky.) University / Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament. The Comets play the host Pioneers on Monday at 3 p.m. The other first round game is Spalding (Ky.) University against Worcester State (Mass.) University. On Tuesday, the losers from each game will play at 1 p.m. for a consolation game, followed by the winners in a championship game.
