UOlivet drops close game to Kenyon, 62-59

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team suffered a 62-59 loss to Kenyon (Ohio) College tonight at the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The entire first quarter was back-and-forth, as there were three lead changes and three tied scores. Neither team led by more than three points in the quarter. The score was tied at 12-12 after one quarter.
- The second quarter was like the first period. The Comets took the largest lead of the game for either team at 24-20 with 2:36 left until halftime. The Owls answered with an 8-0 run for their own four-point lead. The teams traded baskets to keep the margin at four points, 30-26, at the intermission.
- Olivet scored the first four points of the third quarter to tie the game at 30-30. Kenyon closed the quarter with a 16-6 run for a 46-36 lead to begin the final quarter.
- The Owls led by 11 points, 51-40, at the 6:49 mark of the fourth quarter. The Comets fought back to close the gap to two points with 16.1 seconds left. Kenyon split two free throws for a 60-57 lead with 13.3 ticks on the clock. An Olivet layup with 6.4 seconds remaining made the score 60-59. Two free throws put Kenyon ahead by three points with 5.1 ticks left. A last-second three-pointer for the Comets rimmed out as the horn went off.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Madelyn Burdis and junior Kaylee Bush each scored 12 points.
- Freshman Ava Lord added 10 points and four assists.
- Bush and junior Christina Malackanich grabbed nine rebounds apiece.
- Freshman Reese Gohsman also had four assists.

- The Comets welcome the Denison (Ohio) University Big Red to the Cutler Event Center next Tuesday, November 25, for a non-league game starting at 6:30 p.m.
