Women’s basketball team defeats Anderson, 71-61
Sydnee Dennis and Bridget Garter each scored 14 points, and Fayth Talbert had eight rebounds to lead the Olivet College women’s basketball team to a 71-61 win over Anderson (Ind.) University this afternoon at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium in Anderson, Indiana.

ANDERSON, Ind. – Freshmen Sydnee Dennis and Bridget Garter each scored 14 points, and freshman Fayth Talbert had eight rebounds to lead the Olivet College women's basketball team to a 71-61 win over Anderson (Ind.) University this afternoon at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium in Anderson, Indiana.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first quarter, the Comets led by as many as nine points on two occasions, with the last time being 19-10 at the 1:16 mark. The Ravens made the last basket to make the score 19-12 after the first 10 minutes of action.
- The second quarter featured long scoring runs for both teams. Anderson started the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 22-19 lead at the 7:35 mark. Olivet answered with an 8-0 spurt to go back ahead by five points, 27-22. The Ravens countered with its own 6-0 run to regain the lead, 28-27. The Comets closed the half on an 11-2 run to hold a 38-30 advantage at halftime.
- In the third quarter, Olivet extended its lead to double figures for the first time in the game, 43-32. Anderson battled back to cut its deficit down to a single point, 46-45, with 1:56 left in the quarter. The Comets scored six straight points before the Ravens made the final basket of the period to make the score 52-48 entering the final quarter.
- Olivet gained its largest lead in the game, 65-52, with 4:06 remaining in the game. Anderson was able to cut the gap to as few as eight points at the 2:29 mark.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the game, Olivet shot 31.5 percent from the floor compared to 37.3 percent for the Ravens. The difference in the game was the Comets scored 30 points off 43 Anderson turnovers compared to nine Raven points off 19 Comet miscues.
- Four Olivet players reached double figures in the scoring column. Dennis and Garter led the way with their 14 points.
- Junior Shawnee Dame and senior Kadesha Taylor recorded 10 points each.
- Freshman Fayth Talbert scored nine points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
FOR THE RAVENS
- Olivia Love posted a double-double with game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds.
- Hannah Dunn and Ryana Watson registered 10 points apiece.
UP NEXT
- Olivet will play four straight home games, beginning next Wednesday, Dec. 20, when Calvin College visits The Cutler Event Center for a 7:30 p.m. MIAA game.
