Olivet College’s Campbell named MIAA Co-Player of the Week for women’s basketball
Olivet College senior guard Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Co-Player of the Week for women’s basketball.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior guard Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Co-Player of the Week for women's basketball. She is sharing the honor with Nicole Antoine from Kalamazoo College.
Campbell averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, as the Comets extended their win streak to 11 straight games with a pair of MIAA victories last week. In a 70-68 win Jan. 22 over Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, she scored 19 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists. Campbell followed that performance with 16 points and four rebounds in a 71-59 win Jan. 25 over Adrian College. She shot 46 percent (12-of-26) from the floor, including 43 percent (6-of-14) from behind the arc.
"Kelsey has been having another great season for us," said Olivet Head Women's Basketball Coach Nicole Burford. "She has been our floor leader on the offensive side and has really worked to improve her defense for the team. Kelsey's ability to make the play with the pass, score herself and now even create more good things for us on defense is a huge part of our success so far this season."
For the season, Campbell is averaging 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game. Her assist average ranks first among NCAA Division III women's basketball players. Campbell is the fourth Olivet player to earn MIAA Player of the Week honors this season.
Olivet, who climbed into the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll for the first time this season at No. 24, is back in action tomorrow night when it travels to play No. 4 Hope College. Tip-off from inside the DeVos Fieldhouse is 6 p.m.
