OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior Stefanie Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week for women's basketball. She is being honored for the second time in her career.
Lang had a spectacular weekend in leading the Comets to two victories, as they won the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 15-16 in Cincinnati, Ohio. In their season-opening 91-80 win over Kenyon (Ohio) College, she scored a single-game school-record 43 points, while pulling down 15 rebounds. One night later, Lang scored 28 points and grabbed a single-game school-record 27 rebounds in an 81-66 win over Muskingum (Ohio) University in the championship game.
For her efforts, Lang was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She shot 70 percent (30-of-43) from the field, made all three of her shots from behind the arc and shot 72 percent (8-of-13) from the free throw line.
"Stef had an awesome weekend," said Olivet Head Coach Nicole Burford. "It was great to be a part of it and watch her embrace being one of our 'go-to' players. Stef was patient, efficient and played with the confidence and aggressiveness that we have been looking for from her. She is such an unselfish player who also has the ability to dominate like she did and she is becoming comfortable with what we are doing and how she fits into that."
Lang and the Comets are now idle until next Tuesday, Nov. 26, when they open MIAA play at home against Hope College. Game time inside The Cutler Event Center is 8 p.m.
