Women’s basketball team rallies to beat Adrian, 51-50, for first conference win
The Olivet College women’s basketball team rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to beat Adrian College, 51-50 in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to beat Adrian College, 51-50 in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
Neither team led by more than four points in the first half. The half also featured seven tied scores and nine lead changes. The Bulldogs took a 27-23 into the locker rooms.
Olivet scored the first four points in the second half to tie the game at 27-27. Adrian answered with a 12-6 run to take its largest lead of the game. The teams traded baskets for another six-point Bulldog lead, 39-33. The Comets then went on 9-2 to take their first lead, 42-41, with 6:56 left in the game.
After Jenn Headley hit a jumper to put Adrian up one, junior Mellissa Bageris (Milford) handed the lead back to Olivet with a 3-pointer, 45-43. Katie Ross tied the game for the Bulldogs with two foul shots. The Comets then took the lead for good on a jumper by junior Brittany Brown (Inkster/John Glenn).
Brown scored a career-high 15 points to lead Olivet. Junior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) had 11 points and pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds.
For Adrian, Katie Ross led all players with 17 points, and Senneca Scott came off the bench to score 15. Headley grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Comets (3-12, 1-5 MIAA) will host Albion College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
