Women’s basketball team comes up just short against Cincinnati-Clermont, 57-54
For the second straight game, the Olivet College women’s basketball team lost a three-point game, as the University of Cincinnati-Clermont (Ohio) rallied to beat the Comets, 57-54, in the second round of the Anderson (Ind.) University Classic at the O.C. Lewis Gymnasium in Anderson, Indiana. For her play, junior Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) was named to the all-tournament team.
ANDERSON, Ind. – For the second straight game, the Olivet College women's basketball team lost a three-point game, as the University of Cincinnati-Clermont (Ohio) rallied to beat the Comets, 57-54, in the second round of the Anderson (Ind.) University Classic at the O.C. Lewis Gymnasium in Anderson, Indiana. For her play, junior Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) was named to the all-tournament team.
In the first half, Olivet led by as many 11 points twice, with the last time being 22-11 at the 5:12 mark. Clermont ended the half with a 14-2 run to take its first lead of the game, 25-24. The Comets got the lead back on a Radde layup and extended the lead back to double figures, 39-29, with 14:15 left in the game.
Olivet maintained the lead until Clermont made two free throws with 2:42 remaining to gain a 53-52 lead. The Comets took the lead 54-53 before Clermont drained four free throws in the final 40 seconds to pull out the come-from-behind win.
Olivet made five more baskets than Clermont. The difference in the game was free throws, as Clermont went 16-of-18 from the charity stripe to 3-of-8 for the Comets. Radde led all players with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) was next with seven points. Sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) dished out nine assists.
For Clermont, Dana Finney scored a team-high 16 points, while Portia Cochrum added 11. Marisa Stutz pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Comets (1-2) will travel to Grand Rapids to play Cornerstone University next Tuesday, Nov. 22. Game time is 7 p.m.
