Fishwick’s career-high 24 points help women’s basketball team beat Adrian, 71-66
Behind a career-high 24 points from senior Lauren Fishwick (Trenton) and 19 points from senior Emily Brown (Muskegon/Mona Shores), the Olivet College women's basketball team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College, 71-66, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
Behind a career-high 24 points from senior Lauren Fishwick (Trenton) and 19 points from senior Emily Brown (Muskegon/Mona Shores), the Olivet College women's basketball team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College, 71-66, tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
In the first half, Olivet built a 16-point lead, 43-27, at the 2:52 mark when Brown canned a jump shot. The Bulldogs trimmed their deficit in half, 46-38, at halftime.
The Comets never relinquished their lead in the second half. Adrian did tie the score at 66-66 with 1:56 left in the game. Brown provided what proved to be the winning points when she drained a pair of free throws with 1:28 remaining.
Adrian's Anita Stamps had a chance to tie the game with 9.1 seconds showing on the clock but she missed both free throws. Olivet made three more free throws in the final nine seconds to seal the win.
Fishwick made 10-of-15 baskets and 4-of-6 free throws for her 24 points. Brown connected on seven field goals and five tosses from the charity stripe for her 19 points. Sophomore Caitlin Thilo (Onondaga/Eaton Rapids) joined them in double figures with 13 points. Junior Gabrielle Federau (Okemos) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Stamps led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Megan Bouwens had a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Comets will take the Holiday break off and resume play Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, when they host Marygrove College at 2 p.m.
