Double-doubles from Brown and Federau help Olivet College women’s basketball team beat Kalamazoo, 72-59

All 10 Comets reached the scoring column, helping them snap a six-game losing streak.
Brown scored a team-high 15 points to go along with 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Federau had 12 points and 13 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. Sophomore Caitlin Thilo (Onondaga/Eaton Rapids) joined them in double figures with 13 points.
Senior Sarah Mangold (Sterling Heights/Bishop Foley) added eight points, while senior Lauren Fishwick (Trenton) and freshman Brittany Dexter (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) scored six points apiece. Mangold, Thilo and senior Vallen VanZyll each dished out four assists.
The Hornets scored the first three points of the game on a 3-pointer by Courtney Kaplan. Olivet answered with a 3-pointer by Thilo. A layup by Fishwick made the score 5-3 and Olivet did not trail for the rest of the game. The Comets led by as many as 12 points in the first half. The Hornets came back and made it a three-point game on three occasions. Olivet led by 10 points, 40-30 at halftime, behind 56.7 percent (17-of-30) from the floor and a 27-8 advantage in rebounding. The Comets extended their lead to 24 points, 64-40, with 9:03 left in the game.
For the game, Olivet shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) and out-rebounded Kalamazoo, 48-28.
Kalamazoo was led by Kaplan with a game-high 16 points and six assists.. Nyemade was held to 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Comets will travel to play Saint Mary's (Ind.) College Wednesday, Feb. 4. Tip-off inside Angela Athletic Facility is 7:30 p.m.
