The Olivet College women’s basketball team dropped an 81-63 decision to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Calvin College tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Olivet College women's basketball team dropped an 81-63 decision to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Calvin College tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Knights' halftime lead of 23 points, 46-23, was their biggest lead of the first 20 minutes of play. Over the first four minutes, 50 minutes of second half, Olivet went on a 16-0 run to trim its deficit to seven points, 46-39. Calvin quickly pushed its lead back to double digits where it stayed for the remainder of the game.
For the game, Calvin shot 45 percent (27-of-60) from the floor. The Knights made 14-of-28 three-pointers, including 11 in the first half. Olivet shot 40.6 percent (26-of-64) from the floor, but hit just five three-pointers.
The Comets placed three starters in double figures, led by junior Gabrielle Federau's (Okemos) 17 points. Senior Emily Brown (Muskegon/Mona Shores) was next with 16 points. Senior Lauren Fishwick (Trenton) scored 11 points. Senior Shannon Tennant (Saginaw/Arthur Hill) came off the bench to grab 10 rebounds.
Kristi Brummel paced Calvin with 17 points, including five three's. Sarah Partridge and Brook VanEck each scored 11 points. VanEck added 10 rebounds.
Olivet begins the second half of their MIAA schedule Saturday when it travels to play Adrian College at 3 p.m.
