The Olivet College women's basketball team scored a season-high 88 points en route to an 88-66 victory over Kalamazoo College this afternoon at the Anderson Athletic Center in Kalamazoo. The victory extended the Comets' winning streak to three games.
After the Hornets took a 7-5 lead, junior Lauren Fishwick (Trenton) knocked down a three-pointer to put Olivet up by an 8-7 score. That basket ignited a 10-0 run for the Comets, and they did not give up the lead for the rest of the game. The closest Kalamazoo would get in the first half was two points. The final margin of victory, 22 points, was Olivet's biggest lead of the game.
The Comets had a balanced scoring attack in the win. Off the bench, freshman Ameina Ross (Lansing/Everett) led the way with 16 points. Fishwick and junior Emily Brown (Muskegon/Mona Shores) had 15 points a piece, while senior Amy Brackenwagen (Grand Ledge) and junior Vallen VanZyll (Lowell) each scored 12. VanZyll was a perfect 4-of-4 from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore Gabrielle Federau (Okemos) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while sophomore Nykole Pfaff (Goodrich/Powers Catholic) dished out a team-leading six assists.
Nymade Cooper led the Hornets with 20 points, including 10-of-15 shooting from the free throw line. Kelsea Howell had a double-double, 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Olivet will host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. The last time the Comets played a home game was Dec. 15.
