O'Neil named MIAA Player of the Week

Olivet College junior guard Jen O'Neil (Auburn Hills/Avondale) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week for women's basketball.
O'Neil averaged 20.7 points over three games played for the Comets last week. In a 72-63 MIAA win over Kalamazoo, she scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Playing at the Franklin (Ind.) College Rim Club Classic, O'Neil scored 18 points in an 88-72 loss to the host Grizzlies and finished the week with a 24-point effort in an 82-65 loss to Univ. of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
For the week, O'Neil shot 40.6 percent (20-of-49) from the floor, including 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from behind the three-point arc. She also connected on 10-of-13 free throws and was credited with 17 rebounds and 10 assists.
For the season, O'Neil leads the team in shooting at 45.3 percent (58-of-128) and is second in scoring (15.9 ppg). She is third in rebounding (4.9 rpg) and assists (21).
Olivet (6-4, 2-0 MIAA) is back in action Wednesday, Dec. 21, when it hosts MIAA-rival Albion College. Tip-off at the Upton Center is 6 p.m.
