Olivet Falls to Aquinas, 64-51, at the Alma College-St. Louis Rotary Classic
The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Aquinas College, 64-51, today at the Alma College-St. Louis Rotary Classic. The Lady Comets' overall record drops to 5-6 and the Saints improve their overall record to 9-8. For her 12 point effort last night and three points today, sophomore forward Tonya Dawson (Marshall High School) was selected to the all-tournament team.
ALMA, MICH. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Aquinas College, 64-51, today at the Alma College-St. Louis Rotary Classic. The Lady Comets' overall record drops to 5-6 and the Saints improve their overall record to 9-8. For her 12 point effort last night and three points today, sophomore forward Tonya Dawson (Marshall High School) was selected to the all-tournament team.
After an 18-18 tie with 5:30 remaining in the first half, Olivet went on a 9-2 run to extend its lead to seven points. Aquinas then made a three-pointer with 46 seconds left and the Comets held a 27-23 lead at halftime.
The Saints opened the second half with a 14-3 run to take a 39-30 lead. Olivet battled back to cut the deficit to four points at 43-39. Aquinas used another big run to take its biggest lead of the game at 14 points with 2:37 remaining.
Junior guard Kim Strange (Ellsworth High School) led the Comets with 13 points. Seniors Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) and Lindsey Brunworth (Hudson High School) each contributed 10 points. Grill also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Heather Orr paced Aquinas with a game-high 16 points and Jessica Staubus had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Olivet will next be in action on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when it hosts Saint Mary's (Ind.) College to open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. at the Upton Center.
