UOlivet comes up short in doubleheader at Oberlin, 7-1 and 4-3

OBERLIN, Ohio – The University of Olivet softball team battled in two losses (7-1 and 4-3) against Oberlin (Ohio) College in a non-conference twinbill this afternoon inside Dolcemaschio Stadium and on Culhane Field.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Yeowomen went ahead 5-0 after scoring two runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning. Oberlin added another run in the fourth inning. The Comets scored their run in the top of sixth when junior Kaitlyn Witkowski came around to score when the centerfielder made an error. The Yeowomen capped their scoring with a single tally at the bottom of the sixth.
- Olivet finished the game with three hits compared to seven for Oberlin. The Comet hits were by seniors Corina Hernandez and Shaelyn Lampinen, and freshman Jordan Reed. Sophomore Alisha Gahn was credited with the pitching loss after yielding six runs (four earned) over three and one-third innings. Freshman Jo Ellen Holbrook threw two and two-third innings of relief, giving up a run on one hit.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning. Reed reached safely on a bunt single, advanced to second on Lampinen's sacrifice bunt and came around to score on Holbrook's single. Oberlin erased its deficit with two runs in the bottom half of the first.
- The Yeowomen stretched the advantage to 3-1 with a single tally in the third. Olivet plated two runs in the fifth inning to even the score. In the bottom of the seventh, Oberlin loaded the bases and a walk brought home the winning run.
- Freshman Elliot Jarvi recorded two hits. She was also the tough-luck losing pitcher. Jarvi threw all seven innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and five walks.
