UOlivet toppled by Albion in home doubleheader

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet softball team was defeated twice by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College 11-1 and 3-2 this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Britons scored four runs in the first inning, with the first three coming across on a home run. Olivet scored its only run in the fourth inning. With two outs, freshman Jo Ellen Holbrook ripped a double to the left-center gap and came around to score on junior Alexis Bond's single into shallow left field. Albion sent 11 batters to the plate and pushed across seven runs in the fifth inning.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets took a 1-0 lead with a run in the third inning. Junior Olivia Burt reached on a single and took second base when the left fielder bobbled the ball. A ground out moved her to third and then senior Corina Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to score Burt.
- The Britons loaded the bases in the bottom half of the third. Olivet got out of the jam when Wenke caught a foul ball behind the plate. Albion used a solo home run and two other runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
- Olivet scored a run in the sixth inning. Sophomore Alisha Gahn and Holbrook had back-to-back singles before Bond hit an RBI-double to score Gahn and advanced Holbrook to third. Albion escaped the inning with two flyouts. The Comets left the tying run stranded at third base in the seventh inning.
- For the game, Olivet had five hits, including two by Holbrook. In the circle, Gahn was the hard-luck loser. She gave up three runs on six hits and two walks.
