UOlivet swept by Bluffton, 9-1 and 11-4

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet softball team lost to Bluffton (Ohio) University, 9-1 and 11-4, in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Beavers jumped out to a 9-0 lead with single tallies in both the second and third innings, four runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth. The Comets scored their only run in the fifth, but it was not enough, as the game ended early due to the mercy rule.
- Olivet was held to two hits, singles by sophomore Alisha Gahn and freshman Jo Ellen Holbrook. Freshman Mia Thurman's sacrifice fly drove in junior Kaitlyn Witkowski with the Comets' lone run. In the circle, Gahn was charged with the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits and four walks over four innings.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Bluffton led 9-0 after scoring two runs in the first inning, four runs in the third and three runs in the fourth. The Comets scored three runs in the home half of the fourth frame. Holbrook reached on a fielder's choice. Freshman Jordan Reed entered the game to run for Holbrook.
- Reed stole second base before going to third on senior Shaelyn Lampinen's single. Lampinen went to second base on the throw to third. Thurman hit a double down the left field line to score Reed and Lampinen. Junior Alexis Bond ripped an RBI-double to score Thurman. The Beavers capped their scoring with a pair of runs in the sixth.
- Olivet totaled 10 hits. Bond, Lampinen and Thurman each went 2-for-3, while junior Haylie Wenke was 2-for-4. Extra-base hits were doubles by Bond, Holbrook, Thurman and senior Corina Hernandez. Freshman Elliott Jarvi suffered the pitching loss, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits over three and one-third innings.

- The Comets resume their conference schedule on Saturday when they play two games at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, starting at 1 p.m.
