UOlivet defeated by Hope in home-opener, 14-2 and 10-2

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet softball team opened the home portion of its 2026 schedule with two losses, 14-2 and 10-2, against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Hope College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Hope scored single runs in both the second and third innings before scoring seven runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to take a 14-0 lead. Olivet scored its two runs in the bottom half of the fifth.
- The Comets were limited to four hits – singles by juniors Alexis Bond, Kaitlyn Witkowski, sophomore Alisha Gahn and freshman Jordan Reed. Reed and freshman Mia Thurman each scored a run, while senior Corina Hernandez drove in a run. Gahn was the losing pitcher after surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits and five walks over three and two-third innings.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Flying Dutch jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer and grand slam. Hope added to its lead with a pair of runs in the second. Olivet scored its two runs in the top of third on RBI-singles by junior Haylie Wenke and Bond. The Flying Dutch capped their scoring with one tally in the third and fifth innings.
- The Comets had three hits – singles by Bond, Wenke and junior Olivia Burt. Burt and Wenke each scored a run. Freshman Elliott Jarvi suffered the pitching loss, yielding 10 runs (six earned) on 11 hits and six walks.
