OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet softball team was defeated by Adrian College, 12-0 and 10-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader today inside the Cutler Athletic Complex.
THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning, one run in both the second and third inning, four runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning to post the 12-0 mercy-rule win.
- Olivet was limited to four hits, including a 2-for-3 performance by freshman Alisha Gahn. The other two hits were by senior Mattie Akom and sophomore Haylie Wenke. Freshman Cayla Konop was the losing pitcher after surrendering 10 runs (eight earned) on 14 hits over the first three and one-third innings.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets scored their only run in the top of the first inning. Wenke poked a single to right field, advanced to second on Akom's groundout and came around to score on a sharply hit single to center field by sophomore Alexis Bond.
- Adrian ended the game by scoring 10 unanswered runs over the first three innings – five in the first, three in the second and two in the third.
- Olivet tallied only four hits, with Bond going 2-for-2 with an RBI. The other hits were Wenke's leadoff single and a single by Gahn. In the circle, senior Briana Gitchell was tagged with the loss. She allowed the first five runs on three hits and two walks. Gahn threw the final three and two-thirds inning, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks.
SENIOR DAY
- In a ceremony between games, Olivet recognized its two seniors – Akom and Gitchell – who played in their final home collegiate softball game. Akom has been a part of the Comet softball program for the last three seasons. Gitchell transferred to Olivet prior to the start of last season.
UP NEXT
- Due to the weather forecast, the home doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow against Manchester (Ind.) University has been cancelled. Olivet now ends the 2025 season on Saturday when it travels to play Alma College. The first pitch from game one of the doubleheader is at 1 p.m.
