UOlivet shutout in MIAA doubleheader at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. – The University of Olivet softball team suffered a pair of shutout losses to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association leader Trine (Ind.) University, 15-0 and 22-0, this afternoon at SportONE/Parkview Softball Field.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

• The Thunder pushed across one run in the first inning, three runs in both the second and third innings before erupting for eight runs in the fourth inning.
• The Comets had one base runner, as senior Mattie Akom reached on a single in the fourth. Freshman Cayla Konop was charged with the pitching loss.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

• Trine scored seven runs in the first, two runs in the second, eight runs in the third and five runs in the fourth.
• In the fourth inning, Olivet's first two batters reached base safely on singles. The Thunder got out of the jam with a strikeout, fielder's choice out at third and strikeout.
• In the fifth inning, the Comets used a base hit, error and walk to load the bases with just one out. Trine escaped the inning with a foul out and ground out.
• Olivet ended the game with three hits – singles by Konop, sophomore Haylie Wenke and freshman Alisha Gahn. Gahn suffered the pitching loss.
