NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Olivet softball team was on the losing end of both games of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, 10-4 and 8-3, this afternoon at Purcell Athletic Field.
THE BASICS
- Final Scores: Saint Mary's 10, Olivet 4; Saint Mary's 8, Olivet 3

- Records: Olivet 1-11 overall, 0-4 MIAA; Saint Mary's 8-10 overall, 2-2 MIAA
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets scored a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI-groundout by sophomore Alexis Bond. The Belles answered with three runs in their half of the first. Olivet took a 4-3 lead when it pushed across three runs in the second inning. Junior Shaelyn Lampinen, sophomore Haylie Wenke and sophomore Zola Smith each drove in a run.
- Saint Mary's responded with five runs in the bottom of the second. The Belles scored two more runs in the third inning.
- Despite the loss, the Comets matched the Belles with 10 hits. Olivet was hampered by five errors. Wenke went 3-for-4 with two runs scored from the leadoff spot in the lineup. Lampinen and Smith each had two hits. Freshman Cayla Konop suffered the pitching loss.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Olivet took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs on RBI-singles by senior Mattie Akom and freshman Avery Lowell in the first inning. Saint Mary's plated three unearned runs in the top of the second before the Comets leveled the score with a run in the third on an RBI-double by sophomore Morgan Rachow. The score stayed 3-3 until the sixth inning when the Belles scored five runs.
- For the game, Olivet tallied nine hits. Akom and Rachow recorded two hits apiece. In the circle, freshman Alisha Gahn was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits over the first five and one-third innings.

- The Comets host Grace Christian University on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader. The first pitch from game one is at 1 p.m.
