BLUFFTON, Ohio – The University of Olivet softball team dropped two run-rule games against Bluffton (Ohio) University in a non-league doubleheader today at the BU Softball Field. The Beavers won 10-2 and 13-0.
THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Olivet scored its first run in the first inning. Sophomore Haylie Wenke walked to lead off the game. She hustled over to third base on sophomore Zola Smith's sacrifice bunt and came around to score on senior Mattie Akom's groundout.
- The Beavers tallied two runs in the second and six more runs in the third to take an 8-1 lead. The Comets got one run back in the top half of the fifth when sophomore Olivia Burt hit a leadoff double, went to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Bluffton capped the scoring with a two-run single in their half of the fifth to invoke the eight-run mercy rule ending.
- Olivet was held to three hits – two doubles by Burt and a double by sophomore Alexis Bond. Freshman Cayla Konop suffered the pitching loss after surrendering the first eight runs on six hits over two and one-third innings. Freshman Alisha Gahn threw the final inning and two-thirds in relief, giving up two runs on six hits.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Beavers plated five runs in the first inning, seven runs in the second and one run in the fourth to account for their 13 total runs.
- Sophomore Ashlyn Christy and freshman Madison Helms had the two Comet hits. Senior Briana Gitchell was tagged with the pitching loss, allowing nine runs (six earned) on eight hits over an inning and two-thirds. Sophomore Izzy Abalos yielded four runs on four hits over the final two and one-third innings.
