BEXLEY, Ohio – The University of Olivet softball team was swept by Capital (Ohio) University, 4-3 and 11-0, in its first doubleheader of the 2025 season this afternoon at Clowson Field.
THE BASICS
- Final Scores: Capital 4, Olivet 3 (8); Capital 11, Olivet 0 (5)
- Location: Clowson Field; Bexley, Ohio
- Records: Olivet 0-2 overall, Capital 6-6 overall
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Capital scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. Olivet manufactured a run to even the score in the third inning. Sophomore Olivia Burt walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole second and scored on sophomore Haylie Wenke's groundout.
- Olivet took a 2-1 lead with a single tally in the fourth inning. Senior Mattie Akom hit a leadoff single, went to second on sophomore Alexis Bond's single and crossed the plate on a throwing error. Capital scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the sixth inning.
- In the seventh inning, Burt drew a walk to start the inning. Sophomore Kaitlyn Witkowski came into the game to run for her. She took second base on a wild pitch before coming around to score on a two-out single by sophomore Zola Smith. Capital plated a run in the eighth to walk off with the victory.
- At the plate, Olivet recorded four hits compared to eight for Capital. Burt reached base safely three times, once with a hit and twice via a walk. Freshman Cayla Konop was the losing pitcher. She struck out seven and walked three batters.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Capital scored one run in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and six runs in the third inning to post the mercy-rule victory. Olivet had one hit, a single by Bond in the first inning. Four pitchers combined to throw the five innings, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits.

- Olivet travels to play Bluffton (Ohio) University next Tuesday, March 25, for a non-conference doubleheader, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
