Olivet College’s Daub and Packer earn 2012 All-MIAA softball honors
Olivet College senior catcher Christine Daub and junior second baseman Marlene Packer have earned 2012 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) softball honors.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior catcher Christine Daub (Hudson) and junior second baseman Marlene Packer (Grand Rapids/Creston) have earned 2012 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) softball honors. Daub is a first-team selection, while Packer is a second-team pick. All-MIAA honors are based on a player's statistics during the 14-game league schedule.
Daub led Olivet with a .525 batting average, which ranked second among all MIAA players. She was also among the league leaders in several offensive categories, including on-base percentage (first, .596); hits (fifth, 21); slugging percentage (fifth, .675); doubles (sixth, six); and RBI (eighth, 14). From her catcher's position, Daub did not commit an error in 36 chances, allowed only one passed ball and threw out four-of-five true base stealers. The other 10 stolen bases against her came when Olivet allowed the stolen base in a first and third situation. In addition, Daub had six multi-hit games, including half with more than three hits. Her best was a 4-for-4, two runs scored and four RBI game against Kalamazoo College.
Packer posted a .432 batting average and was fifth in RBI (15) and 10th in slugging percentage (.659). She recorded five multi-hit and five multi-RBI games. Packer's best games were a 3-for-3 and four RBI performance against Albion College and 3-for-3 and four runs scored game against Kalamazoo.
For the entire 34-game schedule, Daub had the fifth best single-season batting average at .415 batting average (39-for-94). She also recorded team-highs in doubles (10), RBI (21), slugging percentage (.543) and on-base percentage (.495). Defensively, Daub had only four errors in 100 chances for a .960 fielding percentage, while also throwing out 13 runners. Packer, who started every game at second base, was second on the team with a .333 batting average. She also collected 33 hits, 15 runs scored, six doubles and 18 RBI. In 157 chances at second, Packer had seven errors for a .955 fielding percentage.
Under the direction of eighth-year Head Coach James Farnum, Olivet had an 11-23 overall record and tied for sixth in the MIAA standings with a 6-10 record.
