Shunkwiler named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Player of the Week

Olivet College senior catcher Beth Shunkwiler (Berrien Center/Berrien Springs) has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for March 14-20.

This past week she went 4-for-6 in the Lady Comets' sweep of Franklin (Ind.). She also recorded three doubles and three RBIs in the two games.

Shunkwiler has hit at a .500 clip in leading the Lady Comets to a 7-1 start. Her four home runs so far this season have tied the Olivet single-season record. She also broke the school's single-game record with two round-trippers against Dominican (Ill.).

Shunkwiler also had five RBIs against DU. Her 16 RBIs for the year already better her 2004 total of 11. In eight games, She has gone 13-for-26 at the plate with six doubles and a triple for a 1.269 slugging percentage.

The NFCA Division III Player of the Week will be announced every Wednesday through Apr. 27.
