Cross country teams compete at 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Championships
The Olivet College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed today at the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Championships. The meet was hosted by Oakland University and ran on a course at the Katke Cousins Golf Course in Rochester.

The men's team was 11th among 15 teams. Freshman Thomas Ray (Constantine) led the Comets as he completed the 4K course in 13:14.1. Freshman Justin Todd (Climax-Scotts) was next at 13:23.2. The times for the other Olivet runners were freshman James Greenfield (Edwardsburg), 13:47.2; junior Derrick Bean (Quincy), 13:58.5; junior Jaysen Brandt (Sterling Heights/Henry Ford II), 15:10.8; freshman Matt Lusher (Carsonville/Port Sanilac), 15:20.4; senior Mauricio Palli (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard Twp.), 15:36.0 and sophomore Aaron Stewart (Dansville), 17:03.9.
The women were ninth among 11 teams. For the second straight meet, senior Andrea Szokola (Marlette) paced them. She finished the 6K race in 24:29.4, followed by freshman Kayleigh Hamilton (Hudsonville) in 26:14.8. The other three Comet runners were junior Stephanie Pierce (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), 26:23.5; freshman Tera Bean (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), 27:16.2 and freshman Jessica Woods (Climax-Scotts), 28:33.0.
Calvin College was first in the men's race while Grand Valley State University was first in the women's race. The races featured NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA teams and community colleges in the state of Michigan.
The Comets will next run Saturday, Oct. 15, at the University of Wisc.-Parkside Invitational.
