UOlivet loses in three sets to Spalding

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team fell to Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) newcomer Spalding (Ky.) University in three sets this morning inside the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Spalding defeated Olivet 25-14, 25-12, 25-19
- Location: Cutler Event Center; Olivet, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 5-11 overall, 0-3 MCVL; Spalding 6-5 overall, 1-1 MCVL
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets scored the first point of the opening set. The Golden Eagles scored the next two points before Olivet tied the score. Spalding then went on a 3-0 run and eventually pushed its lead to five points, 11-6. The Comets trimmed their deficit to two points, 11-9, but did not get any closer for the rest of the set.
- The Golden Eagles never trailed in the second set, leading it by as many as 15 points.
- Spalding led by a point three times to begin the third set. Olivet then went on a 3-0 spurt to take a 5-3 lead. The Comet lead grew to five points, 13-8. The Golden Eagles chipped away at the gap before taking a 16-15 lead. Olivet scored the next two points to regain the lead. The Comets held onto the advantage until Spalding ended the set with a 7-0 run.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Jared Carter and sophomore Silas Martin each tallied five kills.
- Freshman Austin Chamblee recorded nine set assists, while Carter had six.
- Carter and senior Matthew Tollar collected 10 digs apiece.
UP NEXT
- The Comets host the Olivet Quad next Friday and Saturday, February 27-28. Olivet faces Franklin (Ind.) College on Friday night at 7 p.m. and then plays University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Calvin University on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
