UOlivet defeats Mount Aloysius in four sets

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team held on for a four-set victory over Mount Aloysius College (Pa.) on day one of the Grove City (Pa.) College Invitational today at the GCC Arena.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Olivet defeated Mount Aloysius 25-14, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21

- Records: Olivet 2-7 overall, Mount Aloysius 0-10 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Olivet opened the set by scoring the first two points on Mountie attack errors. Mount Aloysius came back to even the score at 3-3. The Comets responded with a 7-1 run for a 10-4 lead. Olivet's advantage grew to as many as 12 points, 20-8. The Comets went on to win the set, 25-14.
- The second set saw Olivet jump out to a commanding 8-0 lead. The Mounties battled back to whittle their deficit down to two points on two occasions, 12-10 and 13-11. Mount Aloysius failed to get any closer for the remainder of the set.
- There were nine lead changes and 14 tied scores in the third set. With the Comets clinging to a slim 14-13 lead, the Mounties went on a 4-0 run to go up 17-14. Mount Aloysius held the advantage for the remainder of the set.
- The fourth set was very similar to the third, as neither team was able to get a significant lead. Following the 13th tie at 17-17, Olivet was able to grab largest lead of the set at 22-19 and force the Mounties to call a timeout. The Comets scored three of the final five points to win the set, 25-21.
FOR THE COMETS
- Eleven players recorded at least one kill, with sophomore Silas Martin having a team-high nine.
- Sophomore Payton Hastings and freshman Hayden Olson each tallied six kills.
- Junior Aiden Chamblee and sophomore Brodye Buning finished with five kills apiece.
- Freshman Austin Chamblee reached double digits in set assists (36) and digs (11).
- Junior Andy Hok topped the defense with 14 digs.

- The Comets continue to play tomorrow at the GCC Invitational. Olivet faces the host Wolverines at 10 a.m. and Randolph College (Va.) at approximately 2 p.m.
