OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College Athletic Director Haley Hunnewell has named Kenny Brokaw as the new head men's volleyball coach. Brokaw takes over for Luke DeWitt, who resigned to pursue other opportunities outside of coaching.
"I am thrilled Kenny has decided to join our Comet coaching staff," said Hunnewell. "He brings a great deal of volleyball coaching experience to Olivet. During our interview process, I was most impressed with Kenny's passion for the sport of volleyball. I am looking forward to seeing what Kenny can do as our head coach."
Since October 2016, Brokaw has served as the head coach for the women's volleyball club team at Washtenaw Community College. While there, he helped the Wolf Pack post a winning record every season after not winning a match in each of their eight prior seasons.
At the same time and since April 17, Brokaw was the head girls' volleyball coach at Vandercook Lake High School. While there, he led the Jayhawks to a 112-42-9 record. In addition, Vandercook Lake won a Michigan High School Athletic Association District championship for the first time in 35 years and captured its first Cascades Conference title in 37 years.
In addition, Brokaw spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons as the assistant men's volleyball coach at fellow Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) member Adrian College. While there, he helped the Bulldogs post a winning season and advance to the MCVL Tournament for the first time in school history. Brokaw's focus was coaching the hitters and blockers.
From November 2015 to September 2019, Brokaw was the head girls' and boys' volleyball coach for the Glass City Volleyball Club team in Adrian. He was responsible for starting up, recruiting and coaching the only boys' club team in the state of Michigan at that time.
Brokaw's other coaching experience includes four seasons as the head freshman girls' volleyball coach and assistant track coach at Tecumseh High School and assistant track coach at Onsted Middle School. He was also the head volleyball coach at the YMCA Hitters Volleyball Club in Adrian and led it to the national title.
"I am so excited and grateful for the opportunity to be the head men's volleyball coach at Olivet," said Brokaw. "Watching film I instantly knew the current players on the Olivet team are my type of players: hard-working, gritty, and fun. I look forward to putting in the work and competing with this outstanding group of men!"
A native of Onsted, Brokaw earned a bachelor's of arts degree in psychology from Siena Heights University in 2016. While there, he played three years of volleyball for the Saints.
