UOlivet’s Brown and Fremeau earn All-MIAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field honors
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The University of Olivet juniors Alexander Brown and Owen Fremeau have earned 2026 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) First Team honors for outdoor track & field.
"Alex and Owen were very impressive during the indoor and outdoor seasons this year," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "So it was very exciting for them both to win MIAA individual titles at the outdoor meet."
At the 2026 MIAA Field Day, Brown took first place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 14 feet, 7-1-2 inches (4.46 meters) on his first attempt. He is now a two-time All-MIAA selection after being named to the All-MIAA Second Team for the 2026 indoor season.
"Alex has been dealing with a couple of different injuries since the end of the indoor season, so I am proud of how he kept himself in a good spot, mentally and physically, to win the pole vault," sttated Lutzke. "Our pole vault coach, Miranda Farr Smith, has done a tremendous job keeping Alex fit to compete this outdoor season. We are looking forward to a healthy Alex next year so he can clear higher heights."
Fremeau took first place in the hammer throw (200 feet, 3 inches) and shot put (56 feet, 6-3/4 inches). The mark in the hammer broke set an UOlivet and MIAA Outdoor Championships record. He also placed seventh in the discus throw (147 feet, 2 inches). Fremeau is now a five-time All-MIAA honoree (indoors in 2025 and 20026, and outdoors in 2024, 2025 and 2026). He is a three-time league champion in the hammer throw and two-time league champion in the shot put.
"The last few seasons, Owen has dominated the MIAA in the throws," said Lutzke. "He continues to make improvements and then works towards new goals. We still have a few weeks left for Owen to break more records. (Throws) Coach (Duastin) Martin pushes Owen every day at practice to be the best version of himself."
