Brown and Fremeau lead UOlivet men at first day of MIAA Field Day

HOLLAND, Mich. – Sophomore Alexander Brown and junior Owen Fremeau won event titles to help The University of Olivet men's track and field team stands in fourth place in the team standings after day one of the 2026 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day. The championships are being hosted by Hope College and at the Gordon Brewer Track.
FOR THE COMETS
- After seven events, the Comets have tallied 43 points. Calvin University tops the field with 68 points, followed by Trine University (Ind.), 62; and Hope College, 52. Behind the Comets are Adrian College, 19; Alma College, 13; Kalamazoo College, 9; and Albion College, 7.
- Brown captured the league title in the pole vault, with a winning height of 14 feet, 7-1/2 inches.
- Fremeau led a 1-4-6 Olivet finish in the shot put, with a winning mark of 56 feet, 6-3/4 inches. Sophomore Yrral Campbell was fourth (44 feet, 11-3/4 inches) and junior Austin Cole finished sixth (44 feet, 2-1/2 inches).
- Fremeau won the hammer throw, shattering the UOlivet and MIAA Championships records with 200 feet, 2 inch performance. Campbell was not far behind in fourth place at 169 feet, 7 inches.
- Junior Luke Leighton and sophomore Tye Kirschner advanced to the 400-meter hurdle finals. In the preliminaries, Leighton was fifth-quickest 56.47 second and Kirschner was seventh-fastest at 56.53 seconds. The times also move them up to No. 5 and No. 6 on the UOlivet Top 10 list.
- Junior Brenden Castillo ran the third-fastest time in school history for the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:09.36.
- Junior Deegan Bodell completed the 10,000-meter run in 34:40.89, which is No. 7 all-time at Olivet.

- The second day of the MIAA Field Day is tomorrow with the remaining field event finals, starting at 12 p.m. Finals in the track events begin at 4 p.m.
